Ragdoll Cats are considered Hypoallergenic - Mild to Moderate Cat Allergies Often No Symptoms Ragdoll Cats are very low in dander and many people with mild to moderate cat allergies have little or no symptoms to a Ragdoll in the home. Many Ragdolls Cats are considered hypoallergenic, but this can vary based on the line and how the cat was bred. If you are allergic to cats but you would like to test if you have allergy symptoms to a Ragdoll Cat, there is a way for you to find out before bringing a kitten home. A great test is to have the breeder wash the cat or kitten you are considering with a Pet Dander Remover Shampoo and then keep the cat separate from other cats in the household for a full day. After 24 hours the breeder can use a clean cat brush to groom the cat or kitten and put the hair that the brush collects into a Ziploc bag and mail to you. Once you receive you can rub the collected hair on your face and wait to see if you have symptoms. If you don’t have symptoms, then you can feel safe to add that cat or kitten to your home. If you do have mild symptoms, you don’t have to give up on the possibility of owning one of these amazing cats. If you select a different kitten from another litter of kittens, you could repeat the process and may get a more desired result. Words of caution: Make sure you give the breeder clear instructions on how to gather the sample. If your kitten or cat has not been separated and properly cleaned, then their coat will contain dander from every other pet in the home. To get a good sample the cat has to be isolated for at least 24 hours. This may not be possible with young kittens that are still nursing so selecting a slightly older kitten may be a better option. Many breeders will accept a small deposit to hold a kitten if you explain the situation and most would make the deposit refundable if you do find that you are allergic. Optionally you could roll the deposit to a different kitten to repeat the test. Ragdoll Kittens is a large breeder that is familiar with collecting these samples and will work with you on these types of requests. Previous Article What is a Ragdoll Cat?
